River City Club Hosts Fishing Derby
Partnering with the Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville we added a special day to the Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament schedule to host a fishing derby for their members. Members from 10 years old and up were encouraged to participate and get “hooked” on fishing. Almost 100 members participated. We provided each participant a fishing pole and tackle box. Pioneer volunteers were on hand to bait hooks, help cast and cheer them on. Lunch was provided and each participate got a “goodie bag” and a medallion to commemorate their day.
According to the Down Syndrome Association most of their members had never fished before. As part of their mission the Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville wants to provide their members the opportunity to be part of stuff “typical kids” get to do and this fishing derby does that.
